My
name is J. Janelle George and I am an Emerging Leader (Class of 2007) assigned
to the Office of Community Services (OCS) at the Administration for Children
and Families (ACF) in Washington, D. C. I am grateful that my
first
year as an Emerging Leader provided diverse learning experiences throughout
the Department of Health and Human Services.
As a Social Science Analyst, I work at OCS in the Division of State Assistance
on the Community Services Block Grant (CSBG) and Social
Services Block
Grant (SSBG) programs. As we celebrate Black History Month, I believe it
important to acknowledge the historical connection between the CSBG and
SSBG programs and the African American community. It is an honor and privilege
to work on two programs born from the tenacity and sacrifices of the community
leaders and civil servants who came before me. I am truly committed to
ensuring the CSBG and SSBG programs produce positive social outcomes for the
individuals, families, and communities they serve.
Working at HHS, takes me back to my time as a foster parent. It reminds
me that the action or inaction of one professional can forever change the
circumstances of the individuals, families, and communities we, as civil
servants, have committed to serve.
