Part II

Upon completion of this course, you will be able to:

  • Handle daily Human Resource requirements for workforce management and utilization;
  • Be familiar with and use recruitment, selection and promotion processes;
  • Review and approve compensation, pay setting, work schedule and timekeeping actions;
  • Utilize performance management, employee development opportunities and awards to motivate and reward employees;
  • Respect diverse individual and group contributions to the workplace;
  • Understand leave approval practices and requirements under the agency leave procedures, Medical Leave Act and other laws and regulations;
  • Distinguish between and deal with performance and conduct issues;
  • Understand and apply the Whistleblower protection provisions of the No FEAR Act; and,
  • Identify when and where to seek assistance on human resources, ethics, outside activities, safety and security and other management issues.
Part III

Upon completion of this course, you will be able to:

  • Understand how to lead in a Public Service organization using ethics, resilience and political savvy;
  • Use strategic and situational leadership principles and techniques to obtain required results;
  • Plan strategically for current and future human and other resource needs;
  • Lead effectively using emotional intelligence, conflict management and problem-solving skills and teambuilding techniques;
  • Account for organizational results through financial and project planning;
  • Build an effective workforce through the use of accountability measures and service motivation; and,
  • Collaborate across organizational structures and manage change to achieve greater results
